Apple has released the update to iPadOS and iOS 12.5.5, aimed at older iPhones and iPads that cannot be updated to the latest versions of iOS and iPadOS.
Apple generally explains that the iOS 12.5.5. “improves security and is recommended for all users”.
The affected update is available for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, first generation iPad Air, second generation iPad mini, and sixth generation iPod touch users.
The update can as always be downloaded over-the-air (directly from the device) by selecting General and then "Software Update".
Apple does not indicate other details but in the release notes for developers it highlights the solution of some vulnerabilities with CoreGraphics, WebKit and XNU and it is therefore good to update as soon as possible.
How to download the update to iOS 12.5.5
As always, you can install the update directly from your iPhone or iPad by going to Settings > General > Software update.
After requesting the update (tap on "Download and install"), it will be downloaded. The system prepares the update and, after a few minutes, it will be installed automatically.
Installing the update requires at least 50% battery or connection to a power source.
If the update doesn't appear immediately, don't worry: it doesn't appear to all users immediately and you may have to wait a little longer.
If you are unable to update wirelessly, you can use iTunes to get the latest iOS update from your Mac or PC with the device connected via USB
