Intel processors

The main Intel processors are Core i3, Core i5, Core i7 and Core i9.Core i3 is the least powerful, Core i9 is the most powerful.Usually we omit "core" from the name because it is repeated.

In each of these chip lines, Intel uses cryptic strings of numbers and letters that provide more information on the skills of this chip and on when it will appear.Learning to decipher it can help you make more informed purchasing decisions.

Let's face this.The first figures ("10") refer to the generation;In this case it is a microcircuit of the tenth generation.The i5-9510U will be a ninth generation chip, or probably about a year older.

The next two or three numbers ("510") refer to the services.The higher these numbers, the more powerful the chip is.However, this is true only for this line of microcircuits.

Graphic performance are another area where you will notice the difference.In my tests, both in benchmark and in real life, the integrated AMD graphics tend to work better than Intel in highly graphic intensity activities such as video editing or games.

The latest series of Intel chips significantly reduced this gap, but AMD is still ahead.You can take advantage of the purchase of an AMD machine if you are a video editor or a player, but most likely you need a dedicated graphic card.(More information on this in the GPU section below.)

How much do you need how you need?

If you are a typical user who uses a web browser, Microsoft Office Suite and perhaps also some kind of photo editing software, we recommend the i7 notebook with an eighth generation or more recent Intel Core i5 processor.This will be displayed as "Intel Core i5-8350u".

If you are a player or make a lot of video editing, you will need an i7 notebook with a discreet graphics card, a separate and much more powerful graphics card.AMD and Nvidia make most of the graphic cards that you will find in the i7 notebook.

Most intel i7 laptops will be combined with a NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, usually one of the max-Q cards, which is an efficient additional component from an energy point of view and suitable for i7 laptops for Nvidia's desktop cards.

Usually they are indicated by the name of the card, then max-q: for example GeForce GTX 1080 Max-Q.(A card with a 2000 level will be more powerful, but it could have a worst battery life.)

Max-Q cards are generally about 15-25% less powerful than desktop versions, but still powerful enough for games and video editing.

The AMD GPU line is called Radeon and ranges from the Vega and high -end vega cards to the R series cards that reflect the Ryzen denomination scheme, in which the Radeon R9 is faster and more powerful in the Radeon R7 series, which ismore powerful than the Radeon 5 series.

How much RAM do you need?

The bigger the better!The random access memory, known as RAM, is what your i7 notebook uses to store data while the processor does something with it.Think about the RAM as in your desk.Everything you're doing now should be on your desk.

If your desk is too small, things will fall and you will not be able to work on it.Likewise, if you run out the RAM, you will no longer be able to open the browser cards or complete the compilation of the videos.In the end your notebook i7 will block and must be restarted.

Eight Gigabytes of RAM should be sufficient for the average Windows user, even if the 16 GB update will make your notebook i7 much more functional (and a must -have for games).Before buying, you have to find out if the RAM is welded to the motherboard.If it is welded, you will not be able to update the RAM alone.

Make your choice

After restricting the field to a few models, read some of the reviews and look for things outside the specifications, as how the zipper holds over time, how the keyboard feels, how the trackpad works and even how hot the bottom of your knees isget.
