The Wi-Fi icon that begins its dance: it flashes, the x appears which signals the absence of connection and so on a couple of times. The message "Connections are available" also appears, but the computer still does not connect to the network. What is going on? Here's how to fix it
Everyone has started up their pc, smartphone or tablet and found themselves with the dancer connection. The computer sees the available networks, clicks connect and the problems begin. The device tries and fails, the user remains isolated and begins to wonder what the problem could be to solve. If this inconvenience is within the deadline, because it is generally a fairly trivial problem to solve, it can waste precious time. Here's what to do in these cases and what the likely solutions are.
The steps you can take to try to fix the situation depend on the type of connection you are using and the device you are connecting from. Let's assume for the moment that it is a PC connected to the home internet network.
1.Automatic diagnostics
Then, the first ally in this case is the diagnostic system of your device. When the connection failed warning box appears, it is usually followed by a clickable "Troubleshooting" link and a second entry that refers the user to the "Network Center". Selecting Troubleshoot will automatically start analyzing the device for connection problems.
If the box does not appear, here's how to reach the connection center and manually launch the network scan. Open the Control Panel, select Find and fix problems from the various menus that appear, then click on the Network and Internet section and then on Internet Connections. Now you can start troubleshooting. The system will be scanned for the malfunction that prevents connection to the network and if possible will fix it. Or it will indicate to the user what is the most probable cause and what is the best solution.
2. Check your modem
If this process fails to unblock the situation there are other things you can try before calling for technical assistance. For example, it could not be a problem with the pc/smartphone/tablet, but with the modem. Make sure the network connection light is on and not blinking. If not, the basic remedy is to restart the modem/router. Turn the device off and on again and if it's not a more serious fault, the situation will usually go back to normal.
In the event that this solution does not solve the problem, there could be more serious problems that do not depend on your device but on the provider's network. Report the malfunction to the assistance center and await instructions from them.
3. Eliminate and reset the net
Before calling the cavalry to help or going strong, try this solution. Open the list of available connections. To find it, simply select the Wi-FI icon. Here are all the networks that the computer/smartphone/tablet can see within its range. Locate yours and click it. Then click on Disconnect. Wait a few minutes then repeat the operation and this time the button that will appear will be Connect.
If that doesn't work, you can try again, but this time instead of clicking and selecting Disconnect, press the right mouse button. Then click the Properties item. A window will open try to delete the network key. Do a new search for available networks, select yours and enter the password manually.
4.Boost the signal
It could also be just a lack of connection because you are in a room where the Wi Fi does not reach due to a drop in signal strength or an overload of the home network (too many devices connected at the same time). Is there a remedy for this too? Certain. You can amplify the signal or use one of the tips to improve the power of the ADSL or fiber connection. Or in the case of overcrowding of devices, you can try to change the bandwidth frequency with which the PC connects to the network.
5. The Antivirus
That might sound like the title of a film. In reality it could be that the system detects a threat and blocks your access to the network. Scanning for viruses or malware may unblock the connection. Start a search for these intruders and clean up your system if they are found.
If it's a Mac that doesn't connect
So far, the solutions proposed are based on the description of problems and solutions hypothesized for PC owners. If, on the other hand, the user has a Mac, some steps of the procedures described are different.
The Mac operating system also loads a network troubleshooter that starts automatically, very similar to the one seen for PCs. If it doesn't start spontaneously, here's what to do. Click on the network connections icon that appears by holding down the Alt key. In the menu that will open there is the item Open wireless diagnosis. At this point the user will only have to follow the on-screen instructions step by step, the only important thing will be to remember the Apple password. The first check will be more superficial, but if it does not lead to the resolution of the problem, it will be possible to restart the monitoring and proceed to an advanced diagnosis of the network.
No results. The good old system of turning it off and on again is always an option that can bring unexpected results in deadlock situations. Restart your Mac and wait, maybe resuming activities the computer will solve the problem for you without having to go on with other attempts.
If this attempt fails, you can try to restore the network through another very simple procedure. Try to delete the data of the usual Wi-Fi network, cancel the automatic reconnection options and proceed to reinstall the network among the preferred ones. In practice you will have to reconfigure that connection network and the connection with the Mac.
To do this, go to System Preferences where the Network item is located. From here you can access the list of all connections detected by your computer. If you have correctly performed the procedure to delete the registered data of the Wi-Fi network, you will now see the name of the network but you will be asked to enter the password.
Obviously what was said above for the Wi-Fi network is valid for both devices. Even with the Mac, if none of these basic tips have worked, you can try to understand if it is a problem related to the provider's network or a momentary modem failure.
What to do if the mobile connection doesn't work
If instead of the traditional landline connection you have problems with the cellular connection with the 4G, 3G or LTE networks (depending on which model of smartphone and the contract with the operator). Also in this case there are some tips that could solve the situation without technical interventions.
Among the basic checks to understand if it is a minor problem or if it is definitely the case to worry, the first is to make sure that you have not finished the data traffic and that you are in an area where the line is busy. Once you are sure of these two conditions, try deleting the old network settings.
Reconfigure the network
When using the hotspot you have to enter a password and typically connect the pc/Mac by selecting a network. It may happen that the network name is Android rather than another very common name that is the same for different devices. You can therefore create overlaps between two lines. To be sure to rule out this problem, delete the network and reconfigure it.
Once again it could be that the lack of connection is not due to a technical problem with your device, but to a general malfunction of the mobile phone operator's network. To dispel any doubts, contact customer service and inform yourself or report the inconvenience, so you will know if you will proceed with other connection attempts or if you will have to wait for them to solve the network problem.
Controls for the iPhone
There are also differences between the operations to try to solve connection problems from iPhone and Android. For example, if you have an Apple smartphone and the message Unable to access the network appears, the path to follow to restart network connections passes through the General Settings. In the menu there is an item with an evocative name: Reset network settings. By clicking on this menu you can delete the pre-configured settings of the Wi-Fi networks typically used and make a new configuration.
It could also be enough to click on the mobile network or Wi-Fi connection icons, deactivate them for a couple of minutes and then proceed to reactivate them and see if the restart changes the situation. Or more drastically power cycle the device.
What to do with an Android
If your smartphone is an Android, the procedure for checking the network connection settings is extremely similar to what we saw previously for PCs. The Wi Fi network connection icon will allow access to the network, the first attempt will be to deactivate and reactivate the connection.
After that you can try deleting and resetting the network. If that doesn't work either, you can change the DNS of the internet connection. This is the domain name system that reads and interprets the URLs of web pages and communicates with the IP of the network resource and of the PC or smartphone. If this server is slow your connection may suffer.
To change the DNS it will be necessary to connect to the network and connections settings and change the code. Generally two are provided by default on the page, so it will be enough to switch from primary to secondary. If you have completed the operation but the connection is still not working, try restarting the phone.
If the problem has not been solved or is frequent, perhaps it is appropriate to evaluate a change of fixed or mobile line operator. In order to find out about the most convenient offers or upgrade your home internet connection, use the SosTariffe.it comparator and discover the current promotions.
