One of the most gifted technological products in this period is certainly the smartphone. Christmas is the perfect time to give or treat yourself to a new phone, but switching from the old to the new device can create some headaches. 
One of the most used applications by Italian users is definitely WhatsApp. Installing the famous messaging app is one of the first steps, but for many users it is essential to find old conversations on the new phone.
If the operating system is the same, the transfer is easy
Restoring the conversations, if the new smartphone uses the same operating system as the previous one, is immediate: to transfer WhatsApp chats between two iPhones, simply restore the backup during the installation of WhatsApp to find all the old chats. 
To make a backup of your conversations just enter the settings, choose Chats, Backup chats and "Back up now". The process will create an iCloud backup that you can use later for recovery. It is also possible to activate automatic and scheduled backups. To do this, just choose Automatic backup and set the frequency of automatic saving.
It is very easy to get the same result on Android too: WhatsApp backups are stored on Google Drive, so any Android smartphone - except for some Huawei that do not use Google services: but there is a way for these too - will be able to restore the backup done via another Android smartphone, following the same procedure described above.
Also in this case a backup file will be created, by entering the settings and then choosing Chat, Chat Backup and "Backup". Also for Android you can activate automatic and scheduled backups with different selectable time frequencies. 
At this point the program will create a zipped file - in which there will be our conversation - that we can easily send to our mailbox, save in the cloud or in a file on our phone. In addition to the texts, in this way it will also be possible to keep the various multimedia files present in the chat.
It should be emphasized that this procedure will allow us, as mentioned, to keep the conversations we are most fond of, but it will not be possible to import these chats into the new smartphone.
Third-party solutions: they work, but pay attention to privacy, security and costs
As previously pointed out, there is no official procedure to transfer chats from an iPhone to an Android phone and vice versa in order to continue conversations smoothly. There are, however, various third-party solutions that aim to achieve this result.
These are practices that we do not recommend for various reasons: downloaded programs and apps will need many permissions to work - often more than strictly necessary - and this means that they will be able to access a lot of data stored inside your smartphone. Furthermore, they are all paid programs, which most of the time offer expensive annual subscriptions.
The need to transfer WhatsApp conversations from devices with different operating systems is very strong, and therefore the list of applications and programs that offer this function is very large. The fact remains that, as mentioned, none of these solutions are approved by WhatsApp and should only be used as a last resort.
