A large number of Android users are currently reporting problems using some apps, including Chrome and Gmail. Specifically, apps close suddenly after launch, continuing to report the error even when placed in the background.
The fault lies with a malfunctioning update of the Android System WebView component, released by Google in the past few hours. The most immediate solution to solve problems, in fact, is to uninstall the component from the Play Store.
Google describes Android System WebView as "a Chrome-powered system component that allows Android apps to display web content." Simplifying, it is a component that allows apps to open a web page within them, if they do not have their own internal browser.
Both Chrome and Gmail make extensive use of the component which, as all Android users can see, is updated very frequently.
It should be noted that Google has already run for cover. The Californian company has in fact released a new version of System WebView which replaces the defective one. If the smartphone does not find the update automatically, just open the Play Store, search for Android System WebView as a normal app and choose to update.
