The Green Pass has arrived in Italy, the recent decree signed by the Prime Minister Mario Draghi has clearly defined what it is, what it is used for and how to obtain it. Furthermore, from 6 August the green certification will be necessary to go to restaurants, participate in public events, access health facilities and travel throughout the country and between the countries of the European Union.
What is the Green Pass and who can get it
The Green Pass is nothing more than an individual document issued by the Ministry of Health in paper or digital format. The certification - represented by a QR Code - is available for vaccinated citizens, for those who perform a swab with negative results and for those who have contracted the virus and are cured.
In particular, citizens who have been vaccinated for at least 15 days, with the first and only Johnson & Johnson dose or with one or more doses of the other vaccines (AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna) can download the Green Pass. Those who have recovered from Covid-19 can take advantage of the Green Pass for the next 6 months, after which vaccination will be required, while by carrying out a rapid or molecular test with negative feedback, they are entitled to the pass for only 48 hours.
How to download the Green Pass on iPhone and Android smartphone
After vaccine administration, failure of the swab or complete recovery from the virus, the Green Pass is automatically generated. The citizen is informed of the availability of the certificate via an email or an SMS, complete with an authentication code (AUTHCODE) to be used to download the QR code.
To obtain the certification and keep it on your smartphone - be it an iPhone or an Android device - there are several very simple and equally valid methods:
IO is a service launched to allow citizens to interact simply and securely with local and national public services, directly from their smartphone. On the contrary, Immuni was conceived by the Ministry of Health to monitor the exposure of citizens to the virus, using the smartphone to track their movements and send a notification in the event of a possible infection.
The IO application is available for all devices equipped with Android 6.0 or later, while on Apple devices iOS 11 or later is required. A smartphone with Android 6 is also sufficient for the Immuni app, while a more updated version is required for iOS, in particular 13.5.
Consequently, most of the devices in circulation are compatible with both applications published by the government, access to the Green Pass via the app is precluded to owners of much older smartphones, such as Samsung Galaxy S3, LG G2 and iPhone 4. How long does the Green Pass last?
The validity of the Green Pass depends on several factors. For citizens who have received the first and only dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the certification lasts for 9 months and can be downloaded starting 15 days after administration. While for those who have received the first dose of multiple dose vaccines, the QR code remains valid until the day of the second administration, after which a second certificate is generated.
For citizens who have access to the Green Pass thanks to the negative result of a rapid or molecular swab, the certification expires after 48 hours. For those who are healed after contracting Covid-19, the certification has a duration of 180 days (6 months) and is generated the day following the confirmation of healing.
