There are now only a few hours left for the (complete) presentation of the new Pixel smartphones which, according to a recent report by Nikkei, will speed up the production of Made by Google smartphones. The Mountain View house with Pixel 6 and 6 Pro would in fact have decided to double the volumes, going from 3.7 million total smartphones in 2020 (data provided by IDC) to over 7 million models of the Pixel 6 line.
To these figures we must then add the orders for the Pixel 5a registered since the beginning of the year, another 5 million pieces which would therefore allow us to speak of an overall production that has tripled compared to last year. But what is the ultimate goal of Google? According to Nikkei's analysis, the Mountain View house is trying to capitalize on its position as the only US manufacturer of smartphones based on the Android operating system and to increase its market share by exploiting the Huawei debacle. Google would aim more decisively to compete with Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi.

Certainly the road that divides Google from the leaders of the smartphone market is still consistent, just think that Apple, despite all the difficulties associated with the procurement of components, has planned to produce 80 million iPhone 13 in the last three months of the year. By Google's standards it is a step forward, even if we have to go back to acknowledging the rather short-sighted vision that the company has of the sector, proof of which is the fact that important markets such as the Italian one are still excluded from the distribution of some of its products (not even the Pixel 6 will be officially sold in Italy).
The official and unofficial data on the new Pixels however support the hypothesis that Google wants to be (even more) serious with the sale of its smartphones: it has begun to customize the hardware platform more deeply - see. the Tensor SoC - characterize the design and reconsider the price. Last year the Pixel 5 was launched at 629 euros with mid-range features, this year it is said that the basic Pixel 6 will be marketed at 649 euros, but the hardware is that of a real top range.
Available on: Pixel 6 Pro for 1,020 euros and Pixel 6 for 780 euros. (updated on 07 January 2022, at 04:27)
