Retracing the stages of the development of the image sensors for mobile phones and above all analyzing its timing is always an interesting operation.Una slide della presentazione di Haechang Lee,Samsung SVP & Head of Automotive Sensors, alSEMI Europe Summit 2021 ci permette di farlo e di dare uno sguardo fugace ai piani futuri del colosso coreano.
In 2000 we had FSI (Front Side Illumined) sensors from 0.3 Megapixel, while 10 years after technology it had changed radically, with BSI sensors (back side illuminated) and megapixels had already risen to 5.
The ride of the increase in the number of pixels on the sensor was then unstoppable: 24, 48, 64, up to the current 108 megapixels and the 200 megapixels recently announced with a further reduced pixel pitch.
Where will this ride take us?The slide of the presentation is clear: for 2025 Samsung's goal is to cram 576 megapixels on an image sensor.
