There are many, indeed many, users who wonder where Samsung smartphones are produced. And in fact, if you think about it, the question is more than legitimate.

This is because most hi-tech products do not clearly show the wording "made in" on the packaging or on the object itself. However, this wording is not present on phones, including those branded Samsung.

Where Samsung phones are made

But now, back to us, where are Samsung smartphones produced?

Vietnam

About 50% of all Samsung phones are made in Vietnam. However, this figure could drastically increase. The South Korean giant has in fact recently announced that a new smartphone factory will soon be operational.

Samsung currently has two factories in Vietnam that produce 120 million devices annually for global distribution. If you are in North America or Europe and have purchased a Samsung phone, it is likely that it was made in Vietnam.

India

Samsung's Indian factory, as well as the largest smartphone factory in the world, produces over 100 million devices annually. The factories in India mainly produce smartphones from the Galaxy M and Galaxy A series.

While most of the Samsung phones manufactured in India are sold locally, a small percentage are exported to Europe, Africa and West Asia.

As for future plans in India, Samsung announced in 2017 that it had invested over $ 600 million in its Indian factories, with the intention of doubling smartphone production.

South Korea

Despite Samsung being a South Korean company, it only produces 8% of its devices here. Also, similar to what happens in India, Samsung smartphones manufactured in South Korea are mainly sold on the local market.

Brazil

If your Samsung phone is from Latin America it is likely that it was manufactured in a factory located in Brazil. In fact, Samsung has been producing in Brazil since 1999.

Indonesia

As for Indonesia, where the production process only started in 2015, Samsung produces around 800,000 units per year, mainly to cover local demand.

Taiwan

The South Korean manufacturer has been making smartphones in Taiwan since 1994.

Around 600,000 devices are produced each month, which is expected to grow further. The most important Samsung phones produced in Taiwan are those of the Galaxy A and Galaxy Note series.

China

Samsung shut down the entire production chain in China in mid-2019. So unless you have an older model, it is very unlikely that your Samsung smartphone will come from China.

The reason for the decision is simple: most Chinese citizens prefer to buy devices from local brands - see Xiaomi and Huawei for example - rather than foreign brands.

Conclusion

On several occasions Samsung has made it clear that the production process and hardware components are the same for all plants. Whether the device is made in Vietnam, Brazil or India.
