We're almost there. Iliad's debut in the landline market really seems to be one step away. Confirmation comes this week directly from some Iliad outlets. As highlighted by the MondoMobileWeb magazine, in fact, the installations of the exhibitors of the future Iliadbox started this week. The device in question will be the new modem router that the operator will make available to its customers in order to manage the home connection.
In France, where Iliad is present on the fixed and mobile telephony market under the Free brand, the device is called Freebox. The name Iliadbox, also confirmed by what is indicated on the displays being installed in the operator's stores, therefore seems to follow the same nomenclature system. It should be noted that, for now, the devices do not yet appear to have been exposed in public.
From a technical point of view, however, the device should not present substantial differences from the one already available in France. We remind you that for some months now, French users have been able to set the Italian language on the latest version of the Freebox, a sign that, on the software side, preparations for the arrival of the new modem router in Italy have already been started.
For the moment, Iliad has not confirmed any launch date of its landline offers but the installation of the new Iliadbox displays in the points of sale represents the definitive confirmation of an imminent debut. More details could arrive at the end of the summer, between the last days of August and the first weeks of September.
All we know about Iliad's home Internet offers
Awaiting an official announcement, there is very little information available on Iliad's debut in the home Internet offers market. Last year, the operator confirmed its intention to make its debut on the Italian fixed telephony market (during 2021). To achieve this, Iliad has entered into a partnership with Open Fiber and will therefore be able to use the company's FTTH fiber optic network.
At the moment, there are no confirmations regarding other partnerships launched by Iliad. The decision to delay the launch, however, could be linked to the desire to expand the network to reach as many users as possible. Iliad, therefore, could also offer FTTC mixed copper fiber connections thanks to the agreement with other providers in the sector. More details will come over the next few weeks.
It is possible, although to be verified, the possibility that Iliad reserves special offers for existing mobile telephony customers, for example guaranteeing discounts on the fee to existing customers with an active SIM. Furthermore, in the future, convergent fixed + mobile offers could arrive to convince users to switch to Iliad with both the fixed and mobile networks.
On the commercial details of the Iliad offers for the fixed network, for the moment, no further information has been leaked. Certainly, over the next few weeks the first precise details on the operator's choices should begin to arrive. By the end of August or, at the latest, at the beginning of September, the provider could finally announce its debut in the fixed network sector.
