Apple will reveal more details about the next version of iOS during the upcoming WWDC 2021, but already rumors are multiplying regarding the new iOS 15 features that could be unveiled on June 7th.
Rumors from French site iPhoneSoft suggest that iOS 15 will introduce a redesigned control center for iPhone and iPad, as well as support for biometric dual authentication via Face ID and Touch ID.
The updated Control Center will leverage some of the design already seen on macOS Big Sur, including drag-and-drop customization and a more compact aesthetic.
While none of the images are detailed, some jailbroken iPhones (via WCCFTech) have featured Mac-inspired control centers in the past, and we think iOS 15 could introduce a similar design.
Double biometric authentication will be introduced on iOS 15 and it will be necessary to pass two identification phases before unlocking some functions, but this will only be valid for the iPhone 13 range.
The system will ask users to authenticate their biometric data via Face ID and Touch ID. This also means that iPhone 13 will be the first iPhone to feature both forms of identification.
To compensate for the absence of the home button, Touch ID will be integrated into the iPhone via an under-display fingerprint scanner, as similarly seen on several high-end Android smartphones.
What else will be new in iOS 15?
The only real rumor about iOS 15 is that the update will be available for iPhone 7 and later. Therefore, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and the first version of iPhone SE are excluded.
The improvements made by Google Assistant in recent years have created new expectations of Apple users on the Siri voice assistant. Many are waiting for a software update that allows Siri to respond faster and at the same time rely less on web results to provide answers to questions.
We also want a new Apple Maps update that allows cycling directions and guides to be available everywhere, instead of just in big cities.
