They had been awaited for months and they have finally arrived: Samsung has presented the new Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, the new generation of its now iconic foldable smartphones. The new models do not bring any technical or design revolution, and indeed they look very much like the previous ones.

In fact, these are novelties more in substance than in form: the two new Samsung foldable smartphones are finally two "credible" foldable smartphones also for everyday use and fill the gaps of the previous generation.

Gaps, mind you, certainly not due to Samsung's shortcomings but, simply, to the youthful defects of the technologies necessary to create a smartphone that folds in two.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3: features and price

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is a "booklet" folding smartphone, which has a size of 7.6 inches when open. The internal screen is unique and seamless, thanks to the Infinity Flex Display technology. It is a panel with 2208×1768 pixel resolution, 374 dots per inch density and a good 120 Hz refresh rate. The external display, on the other hand, is a 6.2-inch AMOLED 2X (2268x832 pixels, 387 ppi, 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate).

The rear photographic compartment of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 is made up of three 12 MP sensors: F/2.2 ultra-wide angle, F/1.8 wide angle and F/2.4 telephoto. Wide angle and tele have optical stabilizer. The camera for selfies, on the other hand, is 4 MP and is under the display. It is the first under-screen camera for a Samsung device.

Galaxy Z Fold3 is also the first foldable Samsung compatible with the S Pen, the stylus of the Korean giant. However, it is a new version of this accessory, engineered so as not to damage the delicate folding screen.

The heart of Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, to which Samsung has added 12 GB of RAM and 256/512 GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage memory. The performance of this foldable, therefore, will be true top of the range.

The battery is almost identical to that of its predecessor: 4,275 mAh capacity, but with finally a little faster recharging: 25 Watts of power with the cable USB-C, 10 Watts wirelessly (there is also reverse wireless charging at 4.5 Watts).

The list price of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 starts at 1849 euros and the device is already available for pre-orders, but will hit the market on August 26th.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3: features and price

Galaxy Z Flip3 is also not very different from the previous generation: it is a very compact clamshell foldable, with a 6.7-inch screen with FHD+ resolution (2640x1080 , 425 dots per inch), of the Dynamic AMOLED 2X type, with a very elongated aspect ratio (22:9) and 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate. On the outside of the device, however, there is the second 1.9 inches, with 260x512 resolution (302 ppi) which will be used above all to read notifications without having to open the main screen.

In this case, the rear photographic compartment features two 12 MP sensors: F/2.2 ultra wide angle and F/1.8 wide angle with optical stabilizer. The camera for selfies is of the traditional type, from 10 MP F/2.4.

The Galaxy Z Flip3 also boasts the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, flanked by 8 GB of RAM and 128/256 GB of ROM. The battery is 3,300mAh. Wired charging is slower than the Fold3: 15 Watts (wireless up to 10 Watts, reverse charging at 4.5 Watts).

The price of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 is relatively low, for a foldable: it starts from 1099 euros, less than what many premium top of the 2021 range cost. Also in this case, pre-orders are already open, but the device will arrive on 26 August.
