The release of Galaxy Note 21 may have been canceled for this year, Samsung CEO himself said: in all likelihood we will not see the new example of the Note series until 2022.
Usually the Galaxy Note series follows the debut of the Galaxy S series by about six months. Galaxy S21 this year came out as scheduled, Galaxy Note 21 was not presented at the Unpacked event on August 11, where instead we saw Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Buds 2.
This news is certainly not new, in fact it has been rumored for months that Galaxy Note 21 may not even be distributed at all: after all, the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is equipped with the S Pen and has a very large display.
Since a Samsung employee allegedly said in December that the company was already working on the new Galaxy Note range, we doubt Samsung has permanently canceled the Note series. We probably won't see a new Galaxy Note in 2021, but 2022 could hold some good news in this regard.
We have also compiled a small guide with the leaked rumors and our expectations about the Samsung Galaxy Note 21 (or Galaxy Note 22), as well as all the main information and forecasts regarding price, release date and specifications.
But if Samsung Galaxy Note 21 has been canceled, why are we listing all the various rumors leaked so far? As we said, it is not certain that Galaxy Note 21 will not be released, and some news may refer to the future Note 22.
UPDATESAt the Unpacked event on August 11, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Buds 2 were presented, but no trace of the Galaxy Note 21.
Samsung Galaxy Note 21: straight to the point
Samsung Galaxy Note 21: availability and price
If Galaxy Note 21 comes out, expect a rather hefty price tag. For the past few years, Samsung has always announced the new Notes in early August, starting shipments two weeks later, so the same is likely to happen for the new Note, although we may have to wait until 2022.
On August 11, Samsung held an Unpacked event, during which we saw the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Buds 2, but no trace of the Note 21 series.
The price is a real unknown: Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra had an introductory price of 1,429 euros, so the successor can only be expensive.
Below you can read our hypotheses regarding the hypothetical release date, which apparently will not be held soon.
Has Samsung Galaxy Note 21 Been Deleted?
The Samsung CEO has suggested that we will not see a new Note series in 2021. DJ Koh said that "the intention is to release new products, but there may be changes in the roadmap that will imply a delayed release to 2022"
Koh told Bloomberg that "the Note series belongs to the high-end, and at this historic moment the development and offering of two high-end devices in the same year would be very difficult."
It therefore seems likely that for the new Note series we will have to wait until 2022. Furthermore, the future device could be called Galaxy Note 22, since Samsung tends to associate the year of release with the name of the new smartphones.
The news that Samsung may not release a new Note anytime soon leaves us no surprise, since we had heard other rumors on the subject prior to the CEO's claims. One of the most recent concerns the Samsung roadmap for 2021, in which no references to the Galaxy Note 21 appeared. However, a launch event scheduled for August 19 was mentioned, during which we could see the Galaxy Note 21 FE.
That said, in December, a Samsung representative (anonymously) allegedly said the company will release a new Galaxy Note in 2021: that the Galaxy Note series hasn't officially hibernated yet? At this moment, no one knows the truth.
Previously it was even said that the successor of the Galaxy Note 20 would be the last Note model: it was rumored that Samsung intended to abandon this series in favor of folding models. According to the most recent news, however, Samsung is not planning to cancel the series, but simply to postpone it to 2022.
This could be attributable to the chipset shortage that plagues the market: Samsung itself has admitted to suffering from supply problems in this historical period.
Samsung Galaxy Note 21: news and rumors
Not much is known yet about the Samsung Galaxy Note 21 spec sheet, probably because we won't see the new Notes until 2022, but we are sure of one thing: it will support and come with an S Pen, as it is the main selling point of the range. .
There will probably be more models: Samsung Galaxy Note 21 Ultra or Plus and a base model.
The range is expected to have a high-end processor: US users will get the best Qualcomm processor currently available, while we Europeans will rely on the Exynos chip.
It seems that Samsung may introduce an under-display front camera on the Galaxy Note 21. In Korea, the company has registered the trade name "Under-Panel Camera" or UPC, so the technology could debut soon.
Our expectations
Here are our expectations and everything we would like to see about the new Galaxy Note 21.
1. Snapdragon for all models
Typically, Samsung inserts different processors depending on the target market: in the United States, they insert the Snapdragon chip, while in Europe and most of the rest of the world they mount the Exynos. The problem is that the two chips are not on par and the "US variant" is better performing.
For that reason, we hope that this year all Samsung Galaxy Note 21 models are equipped with the Snapdragon processor… unless the Exynos 2100 proves superior.
2. Rear glass panel
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has a glass back panel, but Galaxy Note 20 has a plastic one, which is surprising considering the price of the device.
We want all Note 21 models to have a glass back or use another premium material such as metal. No plastic please.
3. Quad HD and 120Hz displays on all models
The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 supports a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which is now outdated; Note 20 Ultra reaches 120 Hz, but only if the resolution is Full HD +, so you have to choose between a high refresh rate or a high resolution.
The Galaxy S20 range (and competitor models, such as the OnePlus 8 Pro ) also have the same problem, so we hope the Galaxy Note 21 range will support a 120Hz refresh rate at any resolution.
4. A better photographic sector
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is one of the best smartphones out there, but its camera falls short in low light conditions. Result? The algorithm decreases the sharpness of photos to remove noise; this results in images with less detail than Apple and Google's solutions, so we want Samsung to fix this.
Plus, we'd like more lenses too - both Galaxy Note 20s have a triple-lens rear camera, but most premium models have four.
5. Faster charging
Both the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra have 25W fast charging, which isn't bad, but pales in comparison to the OnePlus 8T 's 65W.
Oddly, it's slower than the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus 's 45W charging, so we're hoping for a return to 45W, if not more.
