Summer 2021 broke all records. Impressive heat peaks were recorded from Lombardy to Sicily. The first day of autumn is September 22, so it is likely that we will have more warm days. Cooling down in the pool, lake, beach or water park will not only concern you, but your phone as well.
When internal temperatures rise too high, the phone may shut down, at best. In the worst case, the battery could expand to dangerous levels and even catch fire or burst. The chances of your phone catching fire - as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 did in 2016 - is rare. It's much more common for a phone to turn itself off when it's too hot, leaving us without a working phone. Or even worse, we may not even realize it.
The phone will always show a warning message, if it is overheated and needs to be turned off. It should work fine again once it has cooled down, but you may need to help it cool down.
Here are some tips to protect your phone from the heat.
Do not leave the phone in direct sunlight.
Now that you are aware that an overheated phone is a real problem, make sure you keep it out of direct sunlight. At the pool or beach, keep your phone tucked away under a beach chair towel or in a beach bag, especially if you take a nap or a dip in the water.
It is also a bad idea to leave the phone in a hot car (for example in the trunk or glove compartment) or even inside the house where direct rays can cause interior temperatures to rise.
Try not to use the phone too much in hot weather

But if you know you will be outside and your phone starts to heat up, take preventative measures to turn off the features you are not using: Bluetooth, LTE, Wi-Fi , GPS and all apps running in the background.
The less busy the phone is, the less its processor will have to work, the less chance it is of overheating inside.

What to do (and not to do) if the battery starts to swell
If the battery seems to swell, this could be a sign that your phone is in serious trouble. If you see cracked edges or start leaking, never touch it with your bare hands.
Use gloves or some other lining to put it in a bag and move it to a safe place, such as a concrete floor in the center of the garage or a metal pan, in case it explodes or catches fire.
Contact your carrier or device manufacturer immediately for customer support. Do not try to use the telephone. As we said before, this situation is extremely rare, but it does happen, which is why it is important to follow practical precautions to keep the device cool even on the hottest days.
